What is Play Therapy and who is it for?

Helping Children Express, Heal and Flourish Through Play

Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling. Instead, they communicate through their behaviour, their emotions, and most naturally, through play. Whether a child is experiencing anxiety, emotional outbursts, low confidence, grief, trauma, friendship difficulties, or challenges associated with ADHD or autism, play therapy provides a safe and supportive space where they can explore their experiences in a way that feels comfortable and natural.

Play therapy is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy specifically designed for children and adolescents. Through carefully selected toys, creative activities, storytelling, art, sensory experiences, and therapeutic games, children are able to express emotions, process difficult experiences, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop healthier coping strategies. Guided by a trusting relationship with a qualified play therapist, children gradually build resilience, confidence, self-awareness, and the emotional skills they need to navigate life's challenges.

At The Flow & Flourish Practice, we recognise that every child is unique. There is no single approach that works for everyone, which is why every therapy plan is thoughtfully tailored to each child's developmental stage, personality, strengths, and individual needs. We also believe that parents and caregivers play an essential role in a child's progress, working collaboratively to ensure that the positive changes made during therapy extend into everyday life.

Whether your child needs support navigating a significant life event, managing overwhelming emotions, building social confidence, or simply finding healthier ways to express themselves, our services are designed to meet them where they are and help them move towards greater emotional wellbeing.

How We Can Help

Individual Play Therapy

Individual play therapy provides a safe, nurturing space where children can express themselves through play. Sessions are tailored to each child's unique needs, helping them develop emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and healthy coping strategies while working through life's challenges.

Group Play Therapy

Group play therapy helps children develop social, emotional, and communication skills through guided therapeutic play. In a supportive group setting, children learn to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and practise positive interactions with peers.

Play Therapy for Neurodivergent Children

Using a neurodiversity-affirming approach, therapy is adapted to support children with ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent profiles. Sessions focus on emotional wellbeing, self-understanding, confidence, and building on each child's unique strengths.

Parent Consultations

Parent consultations provide guidance, support, and practical strategies to help you better understand your child's emotional needs. Working together, we create a collaborative approach that supports your child's progress both at home and in therapy.

Play Therapy for Preteens & Teenagers

As children grow, therapy evolves with them. Using a blend of creative activities, games, and conversation, sessions help preteens and teenagers navigate anxiety, friendships, identity, school pressures, emotional regulation, and self-esteem.

School Consultation & Collaboration

We work closely with schools, teachers, and other professionals to provide consistent support across environments. Collaboration helps ensure children receive the understanding and strategies they need to thrive both emotionally and academically.

Not Sure Whether Play Therapy Is Right for Your Child?

Sometimes it can be difficult to know whether a child’s behaviour is part of normal development or a sign that they may benefit from additional support. Our free, age-specific wellbeing quizzes are designed to help parents reflect on what they have been noticing and consider whether it may be helpful to speak with Fecha.

Play Therapy

Helping Children Express, Heal and Grow

Every child experiences the world in their own unique way. When emotions become overwhelming, children often communicate through behaviour rather than words. Individual play therapy provides a safe, accepting space where children can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play—their natural language.

At The Flow & Flourish Practice, every therapy journey is tailored to the individual child. Sessions are carefully designed to meet each child's developmental stage, personality, strengths, and emotional needs. Through evidence-based play therapy, children can process difficult experiences, strengthen emotional regulation, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping.

Individual play therapy may support children experiencing anxiety, emotional outbursts, behavioural challenges, grief, trauma, friendship difficulties, low self-esteem, family transitions, or challenges at school. Therapy progresses at each child's own pace, allowing them to feel safe, understood, and empowered throughout the process.

Play Therapy for Neurodivergent Children

Celebrating Every Child's Unique Way of Experiencing the World

Every neurodivergent child deserves to be understood, accepted, and supported for who they are. At The Flow & Flourish Practice, we take a neurodiversity-affirming approach that recognises and celebrates each child's strengths while helping them navigate emotional challenges and everyday life.

Sessions are thoughtfully adapted to meet each child's communication style, sensory preferences, interests, and developmental needs. Whether your child is autistic, has ADHD, or experiences other forms of neurodivergence, therapy provides a supportive space to explore emotions, develop self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and build confidence.

Our goal is never to change who your child is, but to help them better understand themselves, develop emotional resilience, and flourish in a way that feels authentic to them.

Play Therapy for Preteens & Teenagers

Supporting Young People Through Life's Biggest Changes

The preteen and teenage years can bring new pressures, emotions, and challenges. Friendships become more complex, school expectations increase, identity develops, and emotions often feel more intense. During this stage, young people need a space where they feel genuinely heard without judgement.

Therapy for preteens and teenagers blends play-based techniques with conversation, creative activities, art, games, and other age-appropriate approaches that encourage authentic self-expression. Sessions help young people develop emotional regulation, strengthen confidence, manage anxiety and stress, improve relationships, and navigate adolescence with greater resilience.

Every therapeutic journey is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to the individual needs of each young person.

Group Play Therapy

Learning and Growing Together

Children learn some of life's most important social and emotional skills through relationships. Group play therapy creates a safe, supportive environment where children can interact with peers while developing confidence, communication, empathy, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.

Guided by a qualified play therapist, children participate in carefully planned therapeutic activities that encourage cooperation, self-expression, and positive social interactions. Group therapy can be especially beneficial for children experiencing friendship difficulties, social anxiety, or challenges with emotional regulation.

Through shared experiences, children often discover that they are not alone and build meaningful connections with others.

Parent Consultations

Supporting Parents to Support Their Children

Parents know their children better than anyone else, but understanding behaviour and emotions can sometimes feel overwhelming. Parent consultations provide a dedicated space to explore concerns, ask questions, and gain practical strategies that support your child's emotional wellbeing.

Whether your child is attending therapy or you are seeking professional guidance before deciding on the next step, consultations are tailored to your family's unique circumstances. Together, we'll discuss your concerns, better understand your child's needs, and develop practical ways to strengthen connection and support at home.

Because when parents feel supported, children benefit too.

School Consultation & Collaboration

Creating Consistent Support Across Home and School

Children thrive when the important adults in their lives work together. At The Flow & Flourish Practice, we collaborate with teachers, learning support teams, school counsellors, and other professionals to ensure children receive consistent, compassionate support across every environment.

School collaboration may include meetings with educators, classroom observations where appropriate, recommendations for strategies, and ongoing communication that supports the child's therapeutic goals. By working together, we create a shared understanding that helps children feel safe, supported, and able to reach their full potential both emotionally and academically.
